InCert - Career Development Loans

What is a Career Development Loan?
Quite simply, a CDL is a deferred repayment bank loan to help you pay for Vocational training or education.

How much can I borrow?
You can borrow between £300 and £8000 to help fund up to 80% of the course fees for most types of Vocational training. If you have been unemployed for more than three months the CDL can cover 100% of the course fees.

What is covered by the loan?
You may borrow to cover your training and any related expenses, including books, exam fees, childcare, travel expenses and any costs associated with disability.

How old must I be to obtain a Career Development Loan?
A minimum of 18 years old.

Can I use Career Development Loan to fund my training at InCert?
Yes.  It is especially useful if you are booking a package of courses as you don't have to make any repayments until one month after all the courses have finished. (maximum 1 yr)

Which banks provide Career Development Loans ?
There are three banks that are members of the scheme, Barclays, Royal bank of Scotland, and the Co-operative Bank.  You do not need to be an existing account holder but the bank may require you to open an account with them.

Do I need to be employed to get a Career Development Loan?
No.  However If you have been unemployed for more than 3 months the CDL may cover up to 100% of the course fees.

What payments do I have to make whilst I am training?
None.  The DfES pays your interest whilst you are on the course and for up to one month after the course has finished.
